There’s movement in our community right now 📍

And not in a positive way. We are losing our midwives to burnout. We are losing our ability to use birth pools in hospitals. We are losing our ability to birth the way we choose.

1) Midwifery led births keep birthing people home longer and can even deliver babies out of hospital. This matters because it stops the triage and L&D from being full and harming infants, as well as the person in labour and postpartum. Midwives can also swiftly head to a home where birth is happening too fast to make it to a hospital, alleviating stress from our already breaking EMS services.

2) Midwives reduce the amount of medicalized assisted births such as the use of vacuums and cesareans, and unmedicated births cost less!!

3) Midwives are currently over capacity now, because the on site hospital midwives support inductions and people who shift to high risk. Again this helps relieve stress on the nurses and OGYNs.

We need people. We need moms. We need pregnant people.
We need anyone with a uterus. We need anyone who has used a midwife in their birth or knows someone who benefited from a midwife, to write and insist that fundinding towards midwifery in AB is essential to help with cutting costs to our health care.

I get SO many questions every time I do my hair and how I get it to last 3 days after so here’s my spiel 😘

Products - @oribe and ORIBE ONLY. From shampoo to heat protectant to blowout cream and oil. Learn the products and work them into your hair don’t just put them on!

PRACTICE!! - sometimes I come out looking like Martha Stewart and I just accept that I’m channelling my inner 70s aunt that day. Watch tutorials helped but trial and error and being brave helped more!

Perfection - just like your eyebrows sometimes we slay and sometimes we cray. Section your hair into 1” small sections. Use a mirror. Don’t strive for professional hair because you’re just learning! Be patient!

I wish I could offer you some magic hack 🔮

That would make birth easy.
That would make it “safe”
That could make it like nothing.

But to become a mother. You have to wrestle. You have to struggle. You have to lowkey die and come back again.

So the things I did - they might work for one mom. And they might not work for another!

But believing in your body and baby, that’s all YOU.

Our labour and births? Genetically passed down. Out of our control. See it as a fun start. A new beginning!

I don’t want your future holidays to revolve around birth trauma 😭😭

When birthdays coincide with big holidays - it totally can be hard!! But you know what’s harder, when Christmas reminds you of the day you and your baby were violated. Separated.

But if we treat our pregnancy coming ending like an evacuation that can happen when WE pick - it can make it even harder!

Because the spiral of interventions.
Because C-section and induction rates are proven to be higher this week.
Because your baby deserves to be in control too.

If deemed medically necessary - GIVER!
If deemed annoyed to have a Christmas birthday, maybe second guess that choice. There are no induction police 😘

First! Don’t be threatened by all the cords, simply just acknowledge it’s going to feel overstimulating for a while but then you’ll get used to them 😎

These are ALL to keep you both safe! To ensure you both are coping well with the medications and changes that the epidural causes for your body 🦴

I also like to play a game called rotisserie chicken with my clients where we are constantly switching positions and doing @spinningbabies for optimal positioning 😇

So yesss. That is 7!!

One at a time.

when using our birth pools, it’s SO easy to do this hack and save yourself time!!

1. Wait till the pool is roughly halfway empty so the weight of the water doesn’t break your arms (learned the hard way 😂)

2. Carefully slide your arm under the liner, open and pull out both air valves!!

3. Slide your arm back out, pull the liner down and let the water pump & the weight of the water do its job!!

This is perfect for those night home births with kids sleeping down the hall, I just roll the pool up like a burrito after and boom - we golden!!!! 🤩🤩🤩🤩

Once the water pump is done, I dump any extras out and try to recycle the liner whenever I can!! Ya welcome 😘
