I’ve learned I am not a superhero.
And I’m not supposed to be.
I can’t be one persons entire postpartum support plan and I have to set boundaries to keep myself family safe 👏🏼

It’s an essential I bring to all births to help birthers get into hands and knees while resting, encouraging baby to come down 👏🏼

But I also still use it for unmedicated births all of the time! A lot of moms love it when they’re starting to push because you can really put your full body weight into it and it doesn’t roll anywhere like a peanut ball!

Unless that baby needs NICU support, we are asking to wait FIVE to ten minutes to cut the umbilical cord ⏰

Why? So that baby gets all the blood, endorphins, oxygen and nutrients they need from the placenta! It’s 1/3 of their blood supply! It sets them up for LIFE!!

The jaundice fear sentence they used has been proved not true, the blood does not “flow backwards”, it’s not a waste of time. It’s legit the way the body designed birth.

SO ASK TO WAIT 5 MINUTES OR UNTIL ITS WHITE! PLEASE!

Your baby deserves it ❤️

Being a doula means being on call 24/7. Like always. In the shower. At 4am. During your friends babies baptism. You have to be ready!

And when you get sick… holy f balls haha triple whammy. Soooo here’s what I did!

Call in the support 📞 my parents, my lovely house cleaner @rosesrosey.homes , @hellofreshca , my babysitters, my therapist, and anyone else who I feel is needed to keep me afloat!

and I CANCEL!!! Yes cancel!!! Anything that isn’t crucial. Immediate postpartum visits first, or anything urgent. Everything else can be pushed! Owning your own business means you decide when to giver and when you need rest 👏🏼

LAST, let’s revamp!! which is what I’m doing today! hot shower, a sugaring appt, groceries delivered, house clean, 4 birth cards written, house cleaned maybe and a fat fat afternoon nap 🤤

so go out and regulate that nervous system, all you need is 4 hours of good sleep apparently soooo #yolo 🌸🤪

some babies are too chill, and some babies are spicy
some have back labour, some don’t
some struggle at 3cm more than at 9cm

how about you were 8cm two hours ago, your water just broke and you’re naturally bearing down?

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 YOU ARE PUSHING FRIEND! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

and we don’t need to check to see if that cervix is gone and interrupt your flow unless there are some risk factors like..

‼️ you’re bleeding red blood during labour more than what your care practitioner consider normal ( the cervix may still be there then!!! )

‼️babies heart rate is being a little sporadic and we are trying to see how much farther they have left to travel!

‼️you have an epidural and can’t feel a single thing!

So FEEL THE PRESSURE! Follow your body. You will know when to push! And you will know how to push too 😘

my best advice is free for you always 😘

but I meet around 75-100 newborns a year and find myself CONSTANTLY saying the same thing! So here it is ⬇️

🦈 newborns are sharks, they can sense fear! so be calm, cool and collected when working with them or hand off the baby to your partner for help if you’re getting heated! you’re NEW! you are all learning! it’s okay to get frustrated 🩵

😌 WARM NOURISHING FOODS, and all the different drinks for the postpartum human! the more the better. for the next 4/8 months for your recovery sake & if you’re body feeding your nutrition is so crucial!

😛 no one knows what they are doing so work together and BUILD the village. push yourself to make friends and be a good friend. ask for help when you need it. don’t let resentment build, find a way to work through it!

🦈 newborns are sharks, they can sense fear! so be calm, cool and collected when working with them or hand off the baby to your partner for help if you’re getting heated! you’re NEW! you are all learning! it’s okay to get frustrated 🩵

😌 WARM NOURISHING FOODS, and all the different drinks for the postpartum human! the more the better. for the next 4/8 months for your recovery sake & if you’re body feeding your nutrition is so crucial!

😛 no one knows what they are doing so work together and BUILD the village. push yourself to make friends and be a good friend. ask for help when you need it. don’t let resentment build, find a way to work through it!

I started @birthpoolsbygrace in May 2023 on a whim and with my partners credit card 😅 to say it was a leap of faith would be an understatement!!!

Now, here we are! Almost 2 years later, over 100 water births supported, birth pools shipped to the East Coast, West Coast, Northern Territories and it’s just getting started 📍

All I want to do is create access and remove the bias around using a birth pool in labour! It’s my passion. I’ve seen birthers go from struggling to sleeping in MINUTES from hydrotherapy - it’s magical ✨

Because he was not 🤪

So we pumped, and fed with a shield ( gave formula twice ) and gave a bottle, and all was well after an amazing visit with @dr.joanna.yeg who got us on track 🏃🏼‍♀️

There are amazing resources now for oral restrictions, utilize mom groups, lactation consultants, postpartum doulas and body workers so that YOU don’t go through this too 😘😘
