The whole reason I created @birthpoolsbygrace was because after my birth I thought..

“That was great but there must still be better”

There has to be a more calm way.
Without bright lights and 100 voices yelling at you.
On your back without a choice or option.

During my pregnancy, I frequently felt like I was let down by my care system because of my age and just how busy it was!

So here we are.
4 years. 160+ births attended.

And we’re just getting started 🤪

Just because I own @birthpoolsbygrace doesn’t mean that I don’t hype clients who chose to get an epidural! Your body your choice queen 😘

There are moments where an epidural is 10/10 the BEST choice for you even if you planned a natural birth! But epidurals do also carry some consequences and risks that we should be educated on when we aren’t in labour mid contraction at the hospital 😂😂

I’ve had two clients need blood patches so far this year from residents doing epidurals. Ask for the pro. Not the student. #justmyopinionnnnnn

I’ve had clients whose babies don’t like the epidural medications and that we can’t control!

I’ve had clients still feel everything. Like everything!!

And I’ve had clients become noodles with 800 lbs sea legs that I help rotate positions for! One of my girls says it feels funny to be tossed around by a little white girl 😂😂😂😂😂

Because once I’ve been led into the operating room, I’ve seen the actual physical difference. It plays on these people’s births!!

Because I’m pretty much the only person on the care team that sees the family pre-fertility all the way to through to the end of postpartum!

Because I know how big this Birth experience is now for them and I know that they are going to need support and help processing.

Because if every third person is having a C-section, why aren’t doulas AND midwives allowed into the OR as support people for the family?

I know they have the space and the capacity. I am happy to create a training. Our doula families want our support and they deserve it, especially if it’s unplanned and traumatic 🤍

Out of my career, my clients who have episiotomies versus the natural separation of their tissue below have drastically different recoveries!

There’s movement in our community right now 📍

And not in a positive way. We are losing our midwives to burnout. We are losing our ability to use birth pools in hospitals. We are losing our ability to birth the way we choose.

1) Midwifery led births keep birthing people home longer and can even deliver babies out of hospital. This matters because it stops the triage and L&D from being full and harming infants, as well as the person in labour and postpartum. Midwives can also swiftly head to a home where birth is happening too fast to make it to a hospital, alleviating stress from our already breaking EMS services.

2) Midwives reduce the amount of medicalized assisted births such as the use of vacuums and cesareans, and unmedicated births cost less!!

There’s movement in our community right now 📍

And not in a positive way. We are losing our midwives to burnout. We are losing our ability to use birth pools in hospitals. We are losing our ability to birth the way we choose.

1) Midwifery led births keep birthing people home longer and can even deliver babies out of hospital. This matters because it stops the triage and L&D from being full and harming infants, as well as the person in labour and postpartum. Midwives can also swiftly head to a home where birth is happening too fast to make it to a hospital, alleviating stress from our already breaking EMS services.

2) Midwives reduce the amount of medicalized assisted births such as the use of vacuums and cesareans, and unmedicated births cost less!!
